Alice Melvin
Whenever I go to Edinburgh I always make sure I pay a visit to ' The Red Door Gallery'....and I always buy something too. I came across this lovely illustrator in there, Alice Melvin. I bought a little card with some stamps in it. The stamps have these wonderful illustrations of birds on them..the owl is my favourite :) I thought it was such a unique idea and just had to buy them. Alice has a lovely website, which is a must see. What attracted me to her illustrations was the colours as well as the simplicity of the shapes. Alice has been involved in many projects and was awarded the 'Andrew Grant Bequest' for outstanding work in illustration in 2004. If you click on the link to her website she has a lovely shop on there, so go and check it out.
Bargain Tolkien book find
I could not resist this book....no way, especially as I am a big J. R. R. Tolkien fan. I'm reading the Fellowship of the Ring at present. This book is called 'A Tolkien Bestiary' by David Day. It only cost me £2 from Cancer Research. Charity shopping is so much fun. Any way back to the book, it's basically like an encyclopedia about Middle Earth along with amazing and wonderful illustrations by various illustrators. Anyone who is a Tolkien fan should get themselves this book.
